Precautions When Evacuating

This page provides important information about things to be aware of when you have to evacuate in the event of a natural disaster or a power outage. When a disaster has occurred, there may be unforeseen risks that are normally not present. It is important to act deliberately and calmly.

Keep away from any broken or sagging electric wires

Never approach or touch any broken or sagging electric wires as these may cause electric shock. If you notice trees, signs, antennas or other objects entangled in electric wires, or if you see leaning electric poles, keep at a distance and contact Kansai Transmission and Distribution.

Other precautions

When a disaster has occurred, there may be unforeseen risks. Always act calmly and carefully.

Evacuation

Do not panic, and evacuate according to the directions by the police, fire department, local government, etc. Do not act alone. Try to work together with your family and neighbors as much as possible.

In principle, do not return once you have started evacuating. Even if you have forgotten something, do not return until it has been announced that it is safe to do so.

Precautions for evacuation

When leaving a multi-story office or residential building, elevators, automatic doors etc. may not operate. Use the stairs while ascertaining safety. If you should have become trapped in an elevator, do not try to escape. Wait for help from outside.

Evacuate on foot, without using cars, motorbikes or other vehicles (these can cause congestion and hinder the movement of fire-fighting and rescue forces).

Pay attention to the evacuation route. Avoid walking in narrow lanes, near walls, or under overhangs or cliffs, which can be hazardous.

Clothing and belongings

To protect yourself from falling objects, wear a helmet, disaster prevention hood, or other suitable head protection. Clothing should be light and easy to walk in. Flat-soled, sturdy shoes that are good for walking are recommended. (To avoid injury from objects scattered on the ground, do not go barefoot.)
