Message From the President

To ensure even greater neutrality in our power transmission and distribution business, and in line with the revision of the Electricity Business Act, in April 2020 the general power transmission and distribution business division split off from the Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated, and continued as Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc.

Although demand for power has been on the decline due to numerous factors including a falling population, a steady move toward conserving electricity usage, and advancements in energy saving initiatives, we believe electricity will play an even bigger role in society from hereon with the evolution of digital technologies and expanded use of electric vehicles, as well as the introduction of robots to boost productivity. Additionally, the way we use power systems is becoming more sophisticated, such as large capacity interconnected power systems for renewable energy power sources that will enable the two-way flow of electricity. More advanced methods of managing energy and the use of storage batteries and other distributed resources, as well as heightening anticipations for strengthening resilience to deal with the increasingly serious and large scale natural disasters that have occurred in recent years, are some examples of how the needs and expectations society and customers have toward power transmission and distribution businesses are becoming more diversified and sophisticated. This is creating an enormous paradigm shift in the power transmission and distribution business.

Even in such circumstances, we remain firmly committed to our mission of continuing to deliver a safe and steady supply of low price electricity, which underpins the activities of industry and our daily lives.

In addition to utilizing big data acquired through smart meters, and to realizing DX (digital transformation) through aggressive adoption of innovative digital technologies such as AI and IoT, we will dedicate ourselves fully not only to furthering the transmission and distribution business but also to undertaking both new and international businesses.

As a member of the Kansai Electric Power Group, Kansai Transmission and Distribution will keep striving to become a valuable and reliable company that society can trust, with a safety-first approach and fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities (CSR) as our foundation. Moving forward, we hope to receive your continued support for the new company, Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc.

Yoshihiro Doi, President and Director, Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc.
